Maria Sharapova showed off her huge engagement ring while out on the town with fiancée, 26-year-old Los Angeles Lakers basketball player Sasha Vujacic.

The 23-year-old newly engaged tennis star appears to be sporting a cushion-cut diamond of approximately 7 to 8 carats on a split-shank platinum band -- worth about $250,000.

Vujacic said he proposed to Sharapova at his Manhattan Beach home on the one-year anniversary of their first meeting. The couple met at a mutual friends barbeque.

Sharapova said in interviews that she was surprised by the proposal.

The two have been together for about a year after first going public last November. Maria, 23, is a few years younger than her husband-to-be at 26.

No wedding date has been announced.

Vujacic and the Lakers claimed their championship rings and hung the franchise’s 16th banner Tuesday. The Lakers squared off against the Houston Rockets as the team begins its quest for a third consecutive championship.

Sharapova won her first major title at Wimbledon in 2004, when she was 17. She went on to win the 2006 U.S. Open and 2008 Australian Open and also reached No. 1 in the WTA rankings.

After shoulder surgery and an elbow injury forced her to miss time the past two seasons, Sharapova is currently ranked 18th.
