Just when former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic was regaining her old form last week in Cincinnati, she suffered a foot strain in her semifinal match against Kim Clijsters.
Ivanovic was forced to retire 12 minutes into the match after rattling off four impressive victories.
On Wednesday, Ivanovic noted on her website that she hopes to return to play next week in New Haven at the Pilot Pen tournament.
"I had almost non-stop icing for two days, to prevent swelling. My ankle has reacted quite well to the treatment and I still hope to play in New Haven next week," Ivanovic noted on her website.
"It's going to be touch and go, but fingers crossed. I'm in close contact with doctors, my new physio is doing a great job and together we are doing everything we can to be back on the court as quickly as possible, without taking any risks."
Ivanovic, who won the French Open in 2008, is currently ranked No. 39 and moved up 23 ranking spots with her four-match winning streak in Cincinnati.
