The top seeded Indian doubles won the most nail-biting and exhilarating match at the Doubles Finals of the 2011 Aircel Chennai Open.

Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes defeated Robin Haase (NED) and David Martin (USA) by a score line of 6-2, 6-7(3-7), 10-7.

The Indian top seeds got 57% of their first serve in and broke their opponents in the 2nd and 8th game of the first set, and held serve throughout the remaining of the set, winning it 6-2. The Haase-Martin duo put up a fierce fight where they broke the ‘Indian express’ in the 3rd game, serving 5 aces and saving a break point to win it 7-6 (7-3).

In the third set, the Indian express played what was one of the overwhelming super tie-breaks of the tournament, where the Indian express won the deciding breaker 10-7.The fans at the stadium were elated and overjoyed to see their favourite duo display their ‘chest thumping’ play after a nine year hiatus to win the final match at the 2011 Aircel Chennai Open.

Leander Paes said, “It’s a great feeling to win this tournament back home. We have already won 4 times at this event and we also won the Davis cup in Chennai in 2010. After a nine year break, it’s a great way to start off, don’t you think?” he asked his doubles partner, Mahesh Bhupathi. He moved on to say, “I would like to thank everyone behind the scenes for making this event possible. We hope to play together in India again and we are extremely happy to have won the Doubles title at the Aircel Chennai open once again.”
