Maria Sharapova, a former World No. 1 Russian professional tennis player, is regaining her champion status.

Maria SharapovaRecently, at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, Maria Sharapova, the No. 16 seed, was victorious over the No. 4 seed, Samantha Stosur.

Sharapova, who holds a perfect 7-0 lifetime record over Stosur, moves on to the quarterfinals to face No. 26-ranked Alexandra Dulgheru, according to Long Island Tennis Magazine. Sharapova last won the year-ending Sony Ericsson Championships in 2004.

Despite a shoulder injury in 2008, Sharapova is stepping up her game in tennis and proving she still wins battles.

Sharapova has won 22 Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles titles, three WTA doubles titles and three Grand Slam singles titles, consisting of the 2004 Wimbledon, 2006 U.S. Open and 2008 Australian Open. She was also runner-up at the 2007 Australian Open. Since her shoulder injury in 2008, she has not recovered her championship form.

Sharapova became engaged to her boyfriend, NBA basketball player Sasha Vujaèiæ, after they had been dating for nearly a year. The two live in Los Angeles together and have often been seen in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
