Pakistan’s top junior tennis player, Samir Iftikhar outplayed aged former davis Cupper Rashid Malik 6-1,6-4 to win the Punjab Open tennis singles title here on Wednesday at Bagh-e-Jinnah courts.
A big gathering including Pakistan’s tennis ace Aisamul Haq witnessed long based line rallies, retrieving impossible shots and sizzling passing shots served by young Samir who is dubbed as a future tennis hope.
Samir broke Rashid Malik in the 3rd and fifth game with display of power tennis to win the set. Rashid Came back strongly and Broke Samir in the 2nd Game to lead 3-0.
Samir bounced back to broke his opponent in the 7th game to lead 4/3. Rashid Played some great return of serves to brake back for 4 games each.
Samir displayed some good passing shot and sizzling serves to take 5-4 lead finally win the set and the match.
Sara Mehboob won a 3 setter marathon match against Saba Aziz 7/6 6/7 6/3 to win the ladies Title.
Aisamul Haq gave away the prizes and said that he was proud that his Cousins Samir Iftikhar , Ushna Sohail, Faizan Khurram are making good progress in tennis.—APP
