Serena Williams, who won her fourth Wimbledon title earlier this month, will be sidelined for the remainder of the World TeamTennis season with a foot injury, the league announced Monday.

The league said Williams cut her foot late last week and was unable to play Friday against the New York Buzz. She played in an exhibition match Thursday against Kim Clijsters in Brussels and lost, 6-3, 6-2.

She will miss all four WTT matches she was scheduled to play this season, including Tuesday night's contest against the Freedoms at Villanova's Pavilion. Williams' team, the Washington Kastles, is the defending league champion.

The team did not disclose details about the injury. Williams' publicist, Nicole Chabot, did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment. The Associated Press reported that Williams required stitches.

Freedoms 24, Lobsters 17

The Freedoms raised their record to 2-4 with the win over Boston at the Pavilion, taking four of the five matches.

The Freedom's Courtney Nagle and Prakash Amritraj defeated Raquel Kops-Jones and Eric Butorac, 5-2, in mixed doubles. Noppawan Lertcheewakarn beat Boston's Coco Vandeweghe, 5-3, in women's singles.

Philadelphia's Ramon Delgado defeated Jan-Michael Gambill, 5-3, in men's singles. Freedoms Amritraj and Delgado beat Butorac and Gambill, 5-4, in men's doubles.
